I’ve been gardening for a very long time; pretty much since the Beatles came to the U.S. on the Mayflower.\u00a0 It began for me when our Dad would sentence us to weeding details in the family garden when we lived on Long Island.\u00a0 After we moved to Northern Wisconsin, I had a gardening hiatus when Dad’s interests shifted from gardening to hunting and fishing.<\/p>\n
I never really even thought of having a garden of my own in those days, but then a miracle happened.\u00a0 In senior year of high school, I was planted next to a beautiful young woman; and soon after we started dating.\u00a0 I consider this a miracle because we have been blessed with a very happy life together.\u00a0 Both of us grew up during the 1960’s, and both of us were very aware that Mother Nature had been treated very badly for all too many years.\u00a0 Fortunately, along with lots of other social changes, the 1960s united many like-minded people who worked to put the brakes on the poisoning of this precious planet.<\/p>\n
Of course, there is still much<\/strong><\/em> to do…<\/p>\n I married my Beautiful Girlfriend back in 1973; and soon after we were hitched we embarked on our very own “postage stamp” garden (very small… 3 feet wide by about 6 feet long).\u00a0 From this tiny plot we harvested several large heads of broccoli, some radishes, tomatoes, and other delicious veggies.<\/p>\n Organic gardening was just becoming popular in those days.
