{"id":54,"date":"2015-10-22T22:47:24","date_gmt":"2015-10-23T02:47:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kennysgarden.com\/?p=54"},"modified":"2016-03-31T15:54:52","modified_gmt":"2016-03-31T19:54:52","slug":"green-for-lunch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kennysgarden.com\/?p=54","title":{"rendered":"Greens For Lunch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fall is harvest time here in West Michigan; and we sure do love it.\u00a0 Right now the focus at our house is on the greens:\u00a0 Swiss chard, wild cabbage (ancestor to kale, collards, etc.) and turnips.\u00a0 The lower fall temperatures remove the bitterness that&#8217;s present during the summer.\u00a0 And my how the greens are thriving these days!!<\/p>\n<p>Nice thing about all of these is they can withstand temperatures that have already killed much of the garden.\u00a0 They all survive the autumn frosts just fine; and can even be harvested in the dead of winter if protected properly.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a picture of some I picked today.\u00a0 One of the wild cabbage leaves was pretty big!!\u00a0 I put my Pyrex bowl, cutting board and chef&#8217;s knife in the photo for size comparison.
